The game doesn’t run smoothly for me, why is this? / I was Kicked for High Ping

It might be that your connection to the server is not as fast as it could be, check your ping rate in the top right hand corner of lobby screen. The lower the ping number the better.

Ping is a measure of the time it takes for a packet of data from your client to reach the end server, along with the time for a data packet from the server to return to your client. This is affected by a number of factors, largely by the speed of your connection and your physical distance from the server itself. MiniSoccer, being a fast paced realtime multiplayer game, requires a low ping in order to give you the best experience possible.

Any sort of delay can mean the difference between victory and defeat. To ensure the best experience possible, you should take the following steps to reduce your ping:

Switch to a Wired Connection / No More Wireless

We recommend always using a wired connection when playing MiniSocccer. Please be sure to disable your wireless adapter when using a wired connection.

Shut down bandwidth hogs

All network connections have a bandwidth limit; this is basically a speed limit on how fast data can be transferred, and a limit on how much data can be transferred at once. This is dependent on what speeds you are paying your Internet Service Provider for. When you use more than your maximum bandwidth, the speed of your connection will drop. If you are the only person on your connection, or if you are sharing that connection with anyone, use of the following programs on your network will impact your performance:

  • BitTorrent programs. Examples: BitTorrent, uTorrent, Azure

  • Voice over IP programs. Examples: Mumble, Skype, Ventrillo, Teamspeak

  • Video Streams. Examples: Youtube, Instant Messenger Video Chat, LiveStreams (twitch.tv, etc)

  • Steam Game or Patch Downloads

Reboot your network hardware

Just like your computer, your network hardware will get sluggish if it not has been rebooted in a long time. This can take weeks or months before it gets to the tipping point, but some routers or modems just need to be rebooted more frequently. When giving network hardware a rest, unplug your modem and router for thirty minutes. Then plug your modem back in first and let it start up completely before plugging your router back in. It's also a good idea to reboot your computer after rebooting your network hardware.

What do the colours in the ping meter mean?

The better the ping you have the more bars will appear in your ping meter. A lower ping number is better and you will have a smoother experience.

The ping thresholds are as follows.

  • Lower than 35ms (green 4 bars) (Best)

  • Lower than 65ms (yellow 3 bars)

  • Lower than 95ms (orange 2 bars)

  • Lower than 95ms (red 1 bar) (Worst)

What is maximum tolerable ping for an individual player?

Lower than 100ms is a tolerable ping for a single player.

If a players ping is too high and is having a negative impact on the game, Can I kick the player?

For player created rooms, admin has the power. For static rooms a player will be automatically kicked if they have a ping higher than 150ms for longer than 1 minute.
