Spades was invented in the 1930's and there are different versions of the rule. For this article, we're taking into consideration the original rules.
The original version is played as a partnership game by four players, while in Spades Masters we have a Solo mode and a Partners mode.
But there are also some other differences that you can find below.
♠️Bidding & Scoring
Spades | Spades Masters |
Bidding NIL and succeeding will give you an extra bonus | No extra bonus for succeeding when bidding NIL |
Bidding NIL and failing will give you an extra penalty | No extra penalty for failing when bidding NIL |
You can bid a blind NIL (bidding NIL before looking at your cards) | No blind NIL possible |
♠️Cards
Spades | Spades Masters |
Two decks with two distinct Jokers are needed | Only one deck with no Joker |
The two Jokers and the 2 of spades are the highest cards | The highest cards are A of spades and K of spades |
If the rules you know don't match with what we have written in this article, it probably means that you have played a version of Spades that is known in your specific country or city.♠️
