While 8 Ball Pool’s basic controls are simple to pick up, mastering them can certainly help you win tougher matches.
Understanding how to fine-tune your aim, adjust the Cue power, and apply the correct spin will help you make better shots and gain a competitive edge.
Whether you're just getting started or looking to refine your technique, knowing the ins and outs of the controls will elevate your gameplay experience.
So let’s get into it!
Aiming with the Cue
To line up your shot, simply move the cue stick in the direction you want to aim.
On mobile, tap and drag the cue or use the Aiming Wheel for more precision (you can find more details about these different options in the “Controls settings”)
On the web version, click and drag the cue to adjust your shot trajectory. Aiming correctly is crucial, so take your time to position your shot before pulling back for power.
Regardless of the platform you are playing on, aiming is one of the most important skills in 8 Ball Pool, so make sure you take your time practicing it as much as possible.
Controlling the Power Bar
Once you’ve aimed, it’s time to decide how much force to apply.
On mobile, drag the Power Bar (left icon in the above image) downward to increase the shot strength - pulling it all the way back will result in a powerful shot, while a shorter drag will produce a softer one.
On web, hold the left mouse button and move the mouse backward to set the power, then release it to take the shot.
In short, the more you pull back the Cue, the more powerful the shot will be.
And remember: proper power control ensures you don’t overshoot or leave your ball short.
Spins & Tricks
So, you've got your aim locked in and your power set – but what if you could do more?
What if you could go a step further and fine tune where the cue ball goes after every shot? That’s where Spin comes in.
In short, it is all about controlling the cue ball’s movement after it strikes a target ball or a rail.
By adjusting where you hit the cue ball, you can influence how it moves across the table, setting up your next shot or avoiding a scratch. Think of it as the secret sauce to levelling up your game.
